  2.              1993 ANNUAL SURNAME LIST AND SOUNDEX CROSS-REFERENCE
  3.           Also Available: The NQF Cumulative Surname List, 1990-1993

  5.           The 1993 list includes  all  3,296  surnames  found  in  the 9
  6.        issues  of The National Queries Forum published  last  year.  The
  7.        1990-1993  Cumulative  Surname  List includes all 11,078 surnames
  8.        found in the first 36 issues  of  NQF.  As  in the index for each
  9.        issue, these lists include the surnames of the submitters as well
  10.        as  those  given  in each query. The corresponding issue numbers,
  11.        not page numbers, are given for every name.
  12.           We  have  also  created a  separate  list  that  arranges  all
  13.        surnames in Soundex order. Follow the directions  for  coding the
  14.        name  your  interested  in; for example, RITNER is coded as R356.
  15.        Under that code, the Cross-Reference  lists  REDNER,  RIDENHOUR ,
  16.        RIDENOUR, RIDNOUR, RITNER, RITTENAUER and ROTNOUR.  This  system,
  17.        which  is  used  by  the National Archives for referencing census
  18.        records, will facilitate  the  location  of variant spellings and
  19.        related names.
  20.            The Soundex Code Cross-Reference is included with both lists.

  22.        SUBMITTERS' ADDRESSES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THESE  LISTS,  AS  THEY
  23.        ARE  FOUND  WITH THE ORIGINAL QUERIES IN THE PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED
  24.        ISSUES OF NQF. THE SURNAME  LISTS ARE INTENDED ONLY AS A GUIDE TO
  25.        THOSE ISSUES.
